ORANG LAUT
DESIGN FUTURE, RESEARCH
2023
The Orang Laut, a sea nomadic community, once thrived by protecting waters and guiding ships. However, as civilisation advanced, their traditional way of life was disrupted, resulting in a significant decline in their population and relevance. Forecasting a future where rising sea levels force humanity to adapt to underwater living, this project envisions a survival kit inspired by the Orang Laut’s skills and physical adaptations. The kit features wearables and tools designed to aid underwater survival, drawing from the Orang Laut's historical identity and expertise, ensuring that their legacy continues into 2050.
Created as part of Design Future assignment in Year 2 BA(Hons) Design Practice at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.
